Films Set in Hotels - AJ Paris Travel Magazine

Because films set in hotels are incredibly rich visually, they tend to be more memorable than some others.

Of course, not all hotels are created equal and same goes for films.

Meanwhile, here are some of our favorite films that feature hotels.


Hotel (1967)

Melvyn Douglas, Rod Taylor, Michael Rennie and Karl Malden star this 1967 film about a hotel owned by Warren Trent (Douglas). The St. Gregory Hotel is struggling financially but Trent is hopeful Peter McDermott (Taylor) will make it work out.


Hotel (2001)

Set in Venice, Italy, this is the drama of guests as diverse as they come. Meanwhile, there is the actual film, then there is a filming of a play in the film, and then there is a documentary being filmed about the film in the film. Yeah, this is a very interesting film!


Hotel (2004)

Jessica Hausner’s film is a very strange one! Franziska Weisz plays Irene, a woman who takes a job at a hotel in the middle of nowhere. Irene’s life and sanity come into dangerous risks because the woman she replaced is nowhere to be found!


Hotel Adlon

Josef von Báky’s 1955 film is set in Hotel Adlon, a popular hotel in central Berlin over a period of 40 years, which includes the Nazi period. It was one of French actress Nelly Borgeaud’s earliest films. These days, the hotel is rated 5-star and is part of the Kempinski chain.


Hotel Artemis

The story of the film is taking place in 2028 during riots in Los Angeles. Hotel Artemis is a 2018 American film with a clear dystopian thriller genre.The story centers around a nurse who runs a secret hospital for criminals. Needless to say, it is a cool futuristic film.


Hotel Chevalier

“Hotel Chevalier” is a 2007 short film by Wes Anderson in which two former lovers reunite in a hotel room. Meanwhile, the short film acts as a prologue for Anderson’s feature film “The Darjeeling Limited,” as the story lines are connected, because the same characters appear in the feature film. The actual hotel used is Hôtel Raphaël in the 16 District of Paris.


Hotel Mumbai

“Hotel Mumbai” is the directorial debut of Greek-Australian filmmaker Anthony Maras. The film is set on the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, which is part of the Taj Hotels chain. Featuring international cast such as Dev Patel and Armie Hammer, the film tells the story of a terrorist attack that took place in 2008.


The Hotel New Hampshire

Actors Jodie Foster, Beau Bridges, Rob Lowe, and Nastassja Kinski come together for this funny film about a family who runs a hotel. Based on John Irving’s 1981 novel of the same name, the film was directed by Tony Richardson. Although the film was not a commercial success, it became a cult classic. The exteriors of many of the scenes were shot at Hôtel Tadoussac in the Quebec region of Canada.


Hotel Splendide

Daniel Craig and Toni Collette star this strange film about a family who runs a weird spa. Terence Gross directed it and it was released in the United Kingdom in 2000. The Blanche family invites you to their remote island health spa, where you will eat tons of weird foods before you are treated to colon cleansing.


Hotel Transylvania

The only animated film on our list, “Hotel Transylvania” is a 2012 funny film about Dracula (voiced by Adam Sandler) building a hotel for all the monsters of the world. The only problem is that his daughter (voiced by Selena Gomez) is way too human-friendly. Needless to say, the success of the film created a franchise that made more than a billion around the world.
